First Time at a Drag Brunch in Miami? Everything You Need to Know Before You Go
So, you’re going to your first drag brunch.
Excellent decision.
Maybe you’re in Miami for the weekend. Maybe your friend booked it for a birthday. Maybe there’s a bride-to-be involved. Or maybe you’ve spent enough time watching everyone else post videos from drag brunch and finally decided it’s your turn.
Whatever brought you here, there is one thing you should know before walking into Paace Drag Brunch in Miami:
This is not a quiet Sunday brunch with background music.
At Palace, brunch comes with queens, performances, music, food, mimosas, audience interaction and the kind of energy that has made drag part of Ocean Drive for decades.
If you’ve never been to a drag brunch before, don’t worry. There isn’t a secret rulebook.
But there are definitely a few things worth knowing before you go.

First Things First: What Exactly Is a Drag Brunch?
At its simplest, drag brunch combines two very good ideas:
Brunch.
And a drag show.
Instead of watching entertainment from a traditional theater seat, you’re eating, drinking and celebrating while drag performers move through the venue, take the stage and interact with the crowd.
At Palace, that experience happens right on Ocean Drive in the middle of South Beach.
We’ve been part of Miami Beach’s drag scene since 1988, and today Palace Drag Brunch brings together food, bottomless mimosas and performances by the Palace queens several days each week.
The result is part brunch, part show and part party.
And yes, you may become part of it.
Make a Reservation Before You Go
This probably isn’t the brunch to approach with:
“We’ll just see if they have a table.”
Popular Miami weekends can get busy, especially when South Beach fills up for holidays, festivals, Pride, long weekends and special events.
If Palace is one of the things you definitely want to experience while you’re in Miami, make the reservation before you arrive.
You can view the current schedule and reservation options on the Palace Drag Brunch page.
Palace currently offers Drag Brunch Friday through Monday, giving you more flexibility than trying to squeeze everything into Saturday or Sunday.
That Monday brunch can be particularly useful if your Miami weekend has somehow turned into a four-day situation.
We’ve all been there.
Arrive Ready for a Show — Not Just a Meal
This is probably the biggest difference between drag brunch and an ordinary brunch.
You aren’t simply going somewhere that happens to have a drag performer in the background.
The show is the experience.
Expect music.
Expect big entrances.
Expect costumes.
Expect dancing.
Expect queens moving throughout the room.
And expect the crowd to react.
People cheer. They clap. They sing along. They take photos. They celebrate birthdays. Bachelorette groups make themselves very easy to identify.
The energy moves between the performers and the audience, which is part of what makes drag brunch work.
So if your normal brunch personality is “sit quietly in the corner and read the newspaper,” consider this your warning.
What Should You Wear to Drag Brunch?
There is no required drag brunch uniform.
But you’re in South Beach.
Have some fun.
For most people, the sweet spot is somewhere between Miami brunch and I’m probably going to be in several photos today.
Think bright colors, sunglasses, resort wear, a good brunch outfit or something with enough personality to survive being seated near a drag queen in full performance glam.
You do not need to dress in drag.
You do not need sequins.
You do not need six-inch heels.
But if there was ever a brunch where being slightly overdressed is unlikely to be a problem, this is it.
Remember that Palace is located directly on Ocean Drive in South Beach, so you may also be walking around Miami Beach before or after brunch.
Dress for the heat as well as the photos.
Bring Cash for the Queens
One of the traditions of drag performance is tipping.
If you love a number, show it.
Having some cash ready makes this considerably easier when a performer comes through the room.
Don’t wave money around and expect a queen to immediately abandon everything she’s doing to collect it. Let the performance happen, follow the flow of the room and tip when the moment makes sense.
Most importantly, remember that you’re watching professional performers.
Applause is great.
Energy is great.
Tips are even better.

Yes, the Queens May Interact With You
This is where first-timers sometimes get nervous.
Will you be dragged onto a stage?
Will a queen roast you?
Will everyone suddenly look at your table?
Maybe.
But audience interaction is part of the fun, and nobody needs to arrive with a prepared monologue.
If a queen talks to you, go with it.
If the room is cheering, cheer.
If your friend told Palace it’s your birthday, you may want to question that friendship before arriving.
And if you’re the bride at a bachelorette brunch…
You already know your friends didn’t bring you here to be invisible.
Palace also offers group and celebration options for birthdays, bachelorette parties and larger gatherings. If you’re planning something bigger than a normal brunch reservation, take a look at the Palace events and group booking options.
Don’t Touch the Performers Without Permission
Audience interaction does not mean boundaries disappear.
Drag costumes can be incredibly detailed, expensive and delicate. Hair, makeup, costumes and accessories are all part of the performance.
Let the queens control the interaction.
If a performer reaches for your hand, poses with you or invites interaction, great.
Otherwise, enjoy the show without grabbing costumes, wigs or performers.
It’s a simple rule:
Be enthusiastic without becoming the problem at table 14.
Taking Photos and Videos Is Part of the Fun
There is a very good chance your camera roll is going to look different after drag brunch.
Take photos.
Record moments.
Capture your friends.
But remember that there is an actual show happening in front of you.
Don’t spend the entire performance watching it through your phone.
And if a performer is moving between tables, avoid stepping directly into the performance space just to get a better angle.
Trust us.
The video will look considerably better if it doesn’t end with you getting run over by a queen in heels.
Come Hungry
There is still a brunch happening underneath all of this.
Before you arrive, browse the current Palace food and dining menu so you have an idea of what you want.
And yes, Palace Drag Brunch is known for bottomless mimosas.
Just remember that “bottomless” is not a competitive sport.
Miami will still be there when brunch ends.
Meet the Palace Queens
One of the best parts of coming back to Palace is beginning to recognize the performers.
Palace has a rotating roster of resident queens and guest performers, each with their own style, personality and approach to drag.
Some are dancers.
Some are comedians.
Some command a room without saying a word.
Some will make very certain that you remember them.
You can meet many of the performers before your visit on the Palace Queens page.
And when you recognize someone during the show, the experience suddenly feels much more personal.
Celebrating Something? Tell Palace
Drag brunch and celebrations have a natural relationship.
Birthdays.
Bachelorette weekends.
Anniversaries.
Girls’ trips.
Reunions.
Divorces that clearly deserved a brunch.
If you’re coming with a group for something special, don’t wait until you’re sitting at the table to mention it.
Palace offers options for group celebrations, including reserved seating and additional experiences depending on the occasion and availability.
Start with the Palace events and private booking page if you’re planning something beyond a regular reservation.
Leave Time to Explore Ocean Drive
One of the best things about doing drag brunch at Palace is where you are when the show ends.
You’re at 1052 Ocean Drive, directly in the middle of South Beach.
Across the street are Lummus Park and the beach.
The Art Deco Historic District surrounds you.
And you’re within walking distance of plenty of places to continue the afternoon.
So don’t schedule brunch between two things on opposite sides of Miami.
Give yourself time to stay in South Beach.
Walk Ocean Drive.
Go to the beach.
Explore the Art Deco architecture.
Grab another drink.
And if brunch convinced you that you haven’t seen enough drag for one day, check the Palace Drag Shows schedule for nighttime performances.
Drag Brunch Etiquette Comes Down to One Thing
Respect the show.
That’s really it.
Tip the performers.
Cheer when you’re having fun.
Don’t touch without permission.
Don’t block someone else’s view for an entire number.
Treat the staff well.
And remember that the queens aren’t background entertainment for your brunch — they are the reason you’re there.
The best audiences give the performers energy.
The performers give it right back.
That’s when drag brunch becomes much more than brunch.

What If You’re Shy?
You are completely allowed to enjoy drag brunch without becoming the loudest person in the building.
You don’t have to dance.
You don’t have to volunteer for anything.
You don’t have to know every song.
And you definitely don’t need previous drag-show experience.
Some guests are there screaming from the first number.
Some need a mimosa first.
Both are welcome.
The only requirement is that you come ready to have a good time and let everyone else do the same.
